HHCS Opening Remarks

On this opening day, I wish to congratulate the founders, board members, administration, teachers, staff, parents, and students of HOPE for Hyndman Charter School!  Our community never ceases to amaze me at it’s ability to come together in a time of great need.  The tireless efforts and giving nature of this community have once again proven that, together, we can do anything.

Students – today I challenge you.  I challenge you to take pride in what this community has provided.  In the hallways, lunchroom, classroom, field, and stage – never settle for less than your best.  Set your goals.  Strive for them.  Do not stop until they are completed.

Have an enjoyable school year.  And, remember, never hide your Hornet pride!

HHCS Music Dept. Surveys

Three surveys are available for anyone interested in the HHCS music department: one for students, one for adults wishing to participate, and one for anyone looking to donate musical instruments/financially. These surveys will be a great help in planning the upcoming year. Please get the word out to everyone that these are now available online! Results are emailed directly to Mrs. Leap. Here’s the link:

School Closing

The Bedford Area School District Board of Education faced a difficult decision this evening.  When the vote was finished, the budget for next year was approved – closing Hyndman Middle Senior High School.

The loss of our school is devastating to our town and surrounding areas.  There is an overwhelming sense of disappointment that overcomes me when thinking of what has happened.

Let’s be clear, though.  This is not a “Hyndman vs. Bedford” situation.  This is simply a “vs. Education” situation.   Education has come under serious fire from our state government.  The blame for our school closing is due to our Governor’s proposed budget.  Education funding is being cut drastically at the state level, forcing districts to make “difficult decisions” (as our Governor put it).  In the end, the only people being hurt by this attack on education are our children – our future!

If you are upset with our situation, please let your local state representatives know!  Change needs to happen in Harrisburg so that this education funding is not cut further.  And, remember to support your local school (where ever that may be) and that school’s teachers.  Your school and your teachers are there for our children… to give them the best possible… to give them a bright future.  In these tough times, let’s never forget that.

Street Clean-up

It has come to my attention that the portion of Schellsburg Street which is part of our current water project is littered with gravel from the project. This is causing the roadway and sidewalks to be unsafe for travel.

Currently, all borough employees are out of town. To solve this safety situation, qualified individuals will be hired to clean the street/sidewalk.

Residents are encouraged to drive with care on this street so that the condition remains as safe as possible.

New Site

I’m currently in the process of switching to a new server.  A new site design should be in place by September.
